Accessibility statement for Set up a Self Assessment payment plan service

This accessibility statement explains how accessible this service is, what to do if you have difficulty using it, and how to report accessibility problems with the service.

This page only contains information about the Set up a Self Assessment payment plan service, available at https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/pay-what-you-owe-in-instalments.

Using this service

This service allows you to set up a payment plan to pay overdue Self Assessment tax charges in instalments, if you are eligible.

This service is run by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this service. This means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • get from the start of the service to the end using just a keyboard
  • get from the start of the service to the end using speech recognition software
  • listen to the service using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We have also made the text in the service as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this service is

This service is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.

Some people may find parts of this service difficult to use:

  • On the ‘Which day do you want to pay each month?’ and ‘How much can you pay each month?’ pages, the label is missing for the text inputs making it difficult to know what should be entered.
  • On the ‘Which day do you want to pay each month?’ and ‘How much can you pay each month?’ pages, screen-reader users will not hear the hint copy or error message when moving directly to the input fields.
  • On the ‘Add your income and spending’, ‘Check your payment plan’ and ‘Your payment plan’ pages, list items have not been grouped together which makes it difficult for screen-readers users to know what they relate to.
  • On the ‘Check your Direct Debit details’ page, the change links do not provide enough context for screen-reader users to determine where the link will take them.
  • The ‘Set up Direct Debit’ page does not have a grouping label to tell screen-reader users how the form fields relate to each other.
  • On the ‘Terms and conditions’ page, when switching to the Welsh version, the hidden word ‘warning’ remains in English and will not be pronounced correctly for screen-reader users.

You can contact HMRC for extra support if you need help with filling in forms or getting a different format, like large print, audio recording or Braille.
