How do I complete and submit the Event Report using this service

You should firstly identify whether it is an event which results in a change to the scheme or if it is an event that relates to the movement of funds. You may have events of both type to report. You then need the details for the Events you have to report.

For further guidance on these Events select the link to the help text titled 'When do I need to complete an Event Report' on this page.

You will be given the opportunity once you have reported items under 'changes to the scheme' to then add events under 'movement of funds' and vice versa. You should enter details of each event separately even if it relates to the same member/employer.

You will be presented with links to allow you to add multiple events and multiple events of the same type for the same member/employer until all events are reported. You can add to/amend the report throughout the year and save the details without submitting it to HMRC. This facility enables you to build up an Event Report throughout the year, or to complete the Event Report in one transaction.

The data saved prior to submission is not visible to or accessible by HMRC therefore your filing obligations will not be met until you have successfully completed and submitted the Event Report.

By way of example, an Event Report saved using this application is the equivalent of you completing a paper form without signing it and then leaving it on your desk. Only the act of signing it, putting it in an envelope, sending it and it being received means you have submitted it. Successfully submitting the Event Report is the equivalent of the acts of signing and delivering it into HMRC's hands. Once the tax year has ended and you are satisfied the report is complete then you should select the 'submit' link.

You will be asked to make two declarations before submitting the report.

If you are a Scheme Administrator submitting the Event Report your details will be pre-populated. If the scheme was registered on or after 6 April 2006 and you have not made your declaration as required by Section 270 Finance Act 2004 see the Registered Pension Schemes Manual RPSM 02306040 the report will be rejected. This manual can be accessed by selecting the link in the left hand navigation bar.

If you are a Practitioner completing this on behalf of a Scheme Administrator you will also be asked to enter details of the Scheme Administrator who approved the content of the Event Report and authorised its submission, The report will not be accepted without these. It will also be rejected if the scheme was registered on or after 6 April 2006 and the Scheme Administrator whose details have been entered by you relate to a Scheme Administrator who has not made their declaration as required by Section 270 Finance Act 2004.
