Description
The product is a Pre-amplifier Switching Unit that is part of the General Service Depth Recorder used on submarines. It is used with a general purpose Echo Sounder which is set for shallow and deep water. It is made from multiple components including housing, plug, socket, transformers, printed circuit card, wiring and stainless steel fasteners. The components comprise a high-gain, low noise amplifier with a peak gain at 10kHz. The gain of the amplifier is greatly reduced when an externally produced suppression pulse is applied to it. The amplitude of the pulse, whose rate of decay is controlled by an external capacitor, determines the extent to which the gain of the amplifier is reduced. A limiting circuit is incorporated in the amplifier to prevent high-energy input signals from overloading and paralysing the equipment. A jack socket is also included for testing purposes. It is packaged in dedicated SPIS packaging.
