Description
Relay Unit Panel The Relay Unit Panel is part of the Synchronous Drive Unit used with a Sonar, an underwater telephone fitted to both surface and submarine. It provides simplex communication between vessels. The item is made from multiple components including: stainless steel housing, Stainless steel fixings (screws, washers etc), wiring, electrical relays, electrical connectors. The unit controls the 400 Hz synchro supply. It also contains the relays which perform the Forward/Stern switching, and alignment functions. The primary function of the relay unit is to monitor input signals, and based on the logic, control relays to pass power & signals to other parts of the system. The relay unit monitors the +24V Enable input from the Synchronous drive unit, and when the signal is high, the 400Hz synchro supply is passed to the directing gears, Training Control Unit and other sonars. The alignment function is a means of resetting the directing gears position relative to the drive circuitry in the Synchronous Drive Unit to remove any drift built up over time. This is achieved by providing the synchro feedback from the directing gears into the input via the relay unit. There is also a rotary switch and lamp for monitoring fault detection circuits. The purpose of the rotary switch and the lamp is to locate power faults in the Synchronous Drive Unit. The voltage of the panel is 115 Volt AC & 26 Volt DC with a current of 0.1 Amp & 1.0 Amp. It is packaged in dedicated SPIS packaging (wooden crate).
