- Description
- Rare Mirror, 1960s, which is an example of Italia design, by Ettore Sottsass Jr. The wooden elements of the mirror are stained in different colours, their spatial relationship to each other and to the mirror, creating a calligraphic composition, which defines this collectors' piece. The architecture of this work, featuring abstract geometric shapes, recalls ethnic jewellery and shares similarities with the abstract language of the architect’s metal sculpture of the 1950s. The present lot also illustrates the architect’s interest in oriental culture. Variations of the mirror are documented in the books by Guia Sambonet, Ettore Sottsass: Mobili e qualche arredamento (1985), by Edoardo Paoli, L'importanza dello Specchio (1949) and in the period publication Domus (1959).
