Description
A Cortex baseband unit is a component within a satellite Telemetry, Tracking and Command (TT&C) earth station. The baseband unit receives signals from the satellite platform giving details of the satellite status. It also enables determination of the satellite location through tracking ranging signals, and enables the uplinked equipment to send commands to the satellite platform. It is primarily a modem (Modulator-demodulator) which provides the core functions involved in managing satellite operations and communications. Telemetry plays a crucial role in data collection from satellites, providing essential information about the spacecraft's status, health, and performance. The baseband unit is mainly composed of receiver / demodulator, Spectrum analysis, Modulator, control processing and time synchronisation hardware and software, as well as power supplies and operator screen. It provides IF (Intermediate Frequency) interfaces for connection to frequency converters and TCP/IP interface for connection to IT systems for monitoring and control of the baseband unit as well as communication with satellite control software.
