- Description
- A Transponder for aircraft Identification and Tracking. It transmits the aircraft's identity and altitude to air traffic control (ATC) and other aircraft, helping with identification and tracking. It supports Mode S, (a secondary surveillance and communication system which supports ATC), which allows for selective communication with ATC and other aircraft, reducing congestion on communication channels. It works with the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) to help prevent mid-air collisions by coordinating with other TCAS-equipped aircraft. It can transmit additional information such as weather forecasts, safety advisories, and terminal data directly to the pilot. Included is an automatic self-test feature to ensure the system is functioning correctly. It can be operated using specific control units (KFS-578A or CTA-81A), which also serve as TCAS controllers. Remote mounted Mode S Transponder designed to meet the role of airborne beacon equipment.
