- Description
- The product is a cartridge specially designed for use as part of an ejection seat for a military aircraft. Following ejection initiation by the pilot pulling the eject firing handle, the cartridge functions when a pin strikes the percussion cap of the cartridge. The pin strikes the cap with sufficient force to ignite the cap, which in turn ignites the mixture of gunpowder and nitrocellulose inside, generating high-pressure gas. The high-pressure gas bursts a thin copper disc designed to release the gas from the cartridge when the correct pressure has been reached. The high-pressure gas released from the cartridge causes initial movement of the ejection seat out of the cockpit and triggers other on-seat devices during the ejection sequence. The cartridge is composed of various components, which are either fabricated in-house or sourced from external suppliers and then assembled. It consists of multiple parts and materials, including metal caps, a brass casing, gunpowder, and nitrocellulose.
