- Description
- A miniature model used in the production of the film Star Wars, Return of the Jedi. This is one of handful of off-the-shelf models that was bought in by the production company to save money and time. It was modified for filming to include a weighted body, a full internal steel motion-control armature, with a motion-control mounting point running through the the body and a rear main engine plate and light up thrusters. The light-up thrusters are built with an aluminium shroud housing each light, are illuminated by connecting the power leads in the nose of the model to a power supply. The top of the wings are designated 'red 4', while the lower wings are designated 'red 5'. This indicates that the model could have been designed for long-shots of Luke Skywalkers X-wing. The model is mounted on a custom-built, mirrored base. The model was acquired from a model maker who worked on two Star Wars films and this model was solely used in the production of Return of the Jedi (the only film where the x-wings were built with kits). This is believed to be the only model X-wing with light up engines and it is therefore extremely rare.
