- Description
- An ‘O’ ring seal specially designed to create a seal to prevent leakage from pipe unions, manifolds or cartridge breaches of an ejection seat Ballistic System Transmission System (BSTS). The BSTS pipework and manifolds transfer high-pressure gas, generated by explosive cartridges installed in the seat, to devices on the seat which are powered by and/or triggered by the supply of high-pressure gas. The dimensions of the ‘O’ ring are specific to the application, as is the selection of material to ensure the ‘O’ ring is not damaged by the high pressures and temperatures of the BSTS system during an ejection, nor degraded over time by extreme environmental conditions during normal aircraft operation. The ‘O’ ring is manufactured out of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (a synthetic rubber) to the UK MOD specification DTD 5607 GRADE 70.
