- Description
- Optical fibre cables used in telecommunications for the transmission of data and signals, based on the propagation of optical signals within optical fibres rather than the transmission of electrical signals through metallic conductors. The goods are made of individually sheathed optical fibres, including conventional single-mode optical fibres and hollow-core optical fibres. The hollow-core fibres differ in structure and optical characteristics from conventional solid-core single-mode fibres and are neither purely single-mode nor multi mode fibres, it’s a new type of fibre. The optical fibre cable is manufactured by assembling different types of optical fibres within a loose-tube structure filled with protective gel, together with water-blocking material, a ripcord and an outer protective sheath, forming a complete optical fibre cable. The optical fibre cable functions by transmitting data through optical signals propagated within the fibres. While conventional single-mode fibres guide light through total internal reflection in a solid glass core, the hollow-core fibres use a different light-guiding mechanism and do not operate in the same manner as standard solid-core single-mode fibres, and may propagate a single mode or multiple higher-order modes. Hollow core fiber guide light in the way of so-called anti resonate. The optical fibre cable is packaged on durable reels.

- Classification has been determined in accordance with the following: For the purposes of determining the commodity codes within which goods most appropriately fall, Reg 3 (1) of The Customs Tariff (Establishment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 sets out that the rules of interpretation contained in the following have effect – a. Part Two (Goods Classification Table Rules of Interpretation) of the Tariff of the United Kingdom (Reg 3(1)(a); and b. Notes to a section or chapter of the Goods Classification Table (Reg 3(1)(b)) GIR 1 has been used to classify this product by the terms of heading 8544 - Insulated (including enamelled or anodised) wire, cable (including coaxial cable) and other insulated electric conductors, whether or not fitted with connectors; optical fibre cables, made up of individually sheathed fibres, whether or not assembled with electric conductors or fitted with connectors GIR 5 (b) has been used to identify the type of packaging. GIR 6 - has been used to classify the goods to subheading level 854470 - Optical fibre cables 10 Digit code 8544700099 - Other than Single mode optical fibre cables, made up of one or more individually sheathed fibres, with protective casing, whether or not containing electric conductors; excluding cables in which all the optical fibres are individually fitted with operational connectors at one or both extremities and plastic insulated cables for submarine use containing a copper or aluminium conductor in which fibres are contained in metal module(s); and other than cables equal to or above 500 metres in length in which all the optical fibres are individually fitted with operational connectors at one or both extremities, excluding plastic insulated cables for submarine use containing a copper or aluminium conductor in which fibres are contained in metal module(s) Also classified in accordance with: Harmonised System Explanatory Notes (HSENs) to heading 8544
