Description
Sacrificial anodes with steel core and cast to DNV specification. Composition material is Cast aluminium alloy. The Length 339.9xWidth 115.9x Height 42.5 – 4.17 Kg each. Aluminium 94 – 97.5% Zinc: 2.5 – 5.75% Indium: 0.015-0.04% Cu: 0.003% Si: 0.12% Fe: 0.09% The material is used as a sacrificial anode to prevent corrosion of steel structures. Aluminium sacrificial anodes are blocks of special metal used to stop ships, offshore structures, and pipelines from rusting in seawater. Mixing the metal - Pure aluminium is melted in a large furnace. Small amounts of other metals are added to give it the right protective properties. A steel bar or insert is placed inside a mould. This allows the anode to be attached to the structure it will protect. The melted aluminium mixture is poured into the mould around the steel core. The metal is left to cool and harden. Once solid, it is removed from the mould and any rough edges are cleaned up. Each anode is checked to make sure it has the correct metal mix, weight, and shape. The finished anodes are labelled and sent out to be fitted onto ships, offshore platforms, or pipelines, where they slowly corrode instead of the main structure protecting it from rust. A sacrificial anode works by corroding preferentially to the protected metal because it is more reactive, supplying electrons that prevent the steel from oxidizing. As a result, the anode gradually corrodes while the steel remains protected. Designed for cathodic protection Usually packed in crates
