Description
Cast Iron Inserts PN-002-004-590 & PN-002-004-591 The cast elements are manufactured from Spheroidal Graphite Iron (SGI) in accordance with EN 1563. Spheroidal Graphite Cast Irons, grade EN-GJS-450-10. Typical Chemical Composition (controlled at supplier/foundry level): - Carbon (C): 3.4 – 3.9 % Silicon (Si): 2.2 – 2.8 % Manganese (Mn): ≤ 0.30 % Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.05 % Sulphur (S): ≤ 0.02 % Magnesium (Mg): 0.03 – 0.06 % (residual, to ensure spheroidal graphite formation) Iron (Fe): Balance Minor alloying elements such as Copper (Cu), Nickel (Ni), or Molybdenum (Mo) may be added in controlled and limited quantities when required to achieve the specified mechanical properties. Minimum Tensile Strength: ≥ 450 MPa, and Minimum Elongation: ≥ 10 %. The cast elements are produced using a Green Sand Casting Process with an automated High Pressure Moulding Line (HPML). Raw Material Charging and Melting Approved base iron, steel scrap, and internal returns are charged into an induction furnace. The molten iron is treated with magnesium-based alloys to convert graphite into a spheroidal (nodular) form. Green Sand (HPML) Moulds are produced on an automated high-pressure moulding line using green sand composed of silica sand, bentonite clay, water, and additives. HPML ensures high dimensional accuracy, repeatability, and stable mould quality. Molten SGI is poured into the prepared moulds under controlled temperature and pouring conditions. Castings are allowed to solidify and cool under controlled conditions to minimize defects. After cooling castings are removed from the moulds. Gates, risers, and excess material are removed through fettling operations such as cutting and grinding. For use in the offshore energy industry for pipeline protection. Insert is over moulded within a polymer product to provide asset protection, impact resistance and stabilization. Usually packed in crates.
