- Description
- Rotary Mesh Expander The Rotary Mesh Expander continuously expands relatively narrow 7.6 to 15.2 cm or (3.0 to 6.0 in.) lead alloy strip into a wider 38 cm (15 in) maximum, trimmed expanded mesh material. The mesh is subsequently filled with active paste material, cut into specific widths, and used as battery plates in lead-acid batteries. The Expander is powered by a Drive System consisting of one master drive and two slave drives. The machine is numerically controlled as it is motor driven. The rotary expansion process operates in four steps: 1) The lead strip is pre-stretched and slit in a unique fashion by a custom designed Toolstand assembly. 2) The preformed material is grasped by three pairs of endless silent chain, one pair on the machine centre line and two pairs on the outside borders. As the material is pulled through the machine, the outside pairs of chains diverge progressively away from the centre pair, causing the preformed material to spread apart to form a network of diamonds. The final mesh height can be adjusted to the design specification and the borders reduced in width by rotating trimmer blades. 3) The mesh is first pre-flattened and then sized by a coining roll assembly to a specific mesh thickness. 4) The final stage is performed by the stretcher assembly, which elongates the centre border to match any outside edge increase in length. This operation, in conjunction with the mesh flattener rollers, produces flat, undulation-free mesh, providing the mesh is opened to the design size. After these four main steps, the mesh may be fed continuously to further processing equipment (tab blanker, paster, plate divider, oven, and stacker) in a battery plate line or coiled for inventory. The Rotary Mesh Expander runs relatively quiet with a speed capacity of 60 m/min (200 ft/min) or 800 plates/min.

- Classification has been determined in accordance with the following: For the purposes of determining the commodity codes within which goods most appropriately fall, reg 3 (1) of The Customs Tariff (Establishment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 sets out that the rules of interpretation contained in the following have effect – a. Part Two (Goods Classification Table Rules of Interpretation) of the Tariff of the United Kingdom (Reg 3(1)(a)); and b. Notes to a section or chapter of the Goods Classification Table (Reg 3(1)(b)). GIR 1 has been used to classify this product by the terms of heading 8462: Machine tools (including presses) for working metal by forging, hammering or die forging (excluding rolling mills); machine tools (including presses, slitting lines and cut-to-length lines) for working metal by bending, folding, straightening, flattening, shearing, punching, notching or nibbling (excluding draw-benches); presses for working metal or metal carbides, not specified above GIR 6 has been used to classify the goods to subheading level 846239: Slitting lines, cut-to-length lines and other shearing machines (excluding presses) for flat products, other than combined punching and shearing machines; Other than slitting lines and cut-to-length lines or numerically controlled shearing machines Also classified in accordance with: Section Note 3 to Section XVI Chapter Note 5 to Chapter 84 Harmonized System Explanatory Note (HSEN's) to heading 84.62 3(a) Harmonized System Explanatory Note (HSEN's) to heading 84.62 3(c)
