- Description
- The Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) technology is an advanced deposition process for applying ultra-thin functional coatings to polymer based and fibre/ paper-based products, aimed at enhancing barrier properties and functionalities for packaging applications. The process involves introducing gaseous silicon containing precursors into a vacuum chamber where they chemically react to form a solid thin film on the substrate surface. Key Features of the CVD Technology for fibre/ paper based substrates: 1. Functional Barrier Coatings: Deposits materials like silicon oxide and aluminium oxides to create thin barrier layers that offer excellent resistance to moisture & oxygen. This is particularly useful for food packaging, enabling high-performance barrier properties without using plastics. 2. Recyclable and Compostable Solutions: The CVD coatings are ultra-thin, allowing the paper based products to remain recyclable and, in some cases, compostable, unlike traditional plastic laminates. 3. Energy Efficiency: Operates at relatively low temperatures and pressures, minimizing energy consumption and aligning with sustainable manufacturing practices.
