- Description
- A disk of steel is rotated whilst a form tool presses against it while it is rotating to produce circular shapes in a process known as spinning. In this case the disc is spun into a tubular shape with a flange. Holes are added to the flange so that the hose adaptor can be bolted to the valve and then the part is zinc plated to protect it against corrosion. The hose adaptor is used exclusively on air shutoff valves for diesel engines. The air shutoff valve is a butterfly design that closes when instructed by a control system. The purpose of the air shutoff valve is to be mounted in the air suction line of a diesel engine between the air filter and the throttle body / cylinder head. In normal operation the air shutoff valve is open allowing full air flow into the engine, it closes when hydrocarbon gases are detected adjacent to the diesel engine which may cause the diesel engine to run away, i.e., to continuously increase speed from the explosible air (extra fuel) being ingested, which can lead to catastrophic failure of the engine and possible ignition of the surroundings. The valves are of a wafer design i.e., they can be mounted directly into a pipe by bolting through the valve into two flanges one either side of the valve. The HAX hose adaptor allows the valve to be mounted between flexible hoses by converting the wafer to a tubular connection. The HAX hose adaptors are available to suit a range of hose diameters. The HAX hose adaptor may be provided to the customer either fitted to the valve or separately and would also be available as a spare part.
