Description
Trailer & Caravan Wheel Hub Service Kits are sets of components used exclusively in the maintenance and servicing of Unbraked trailer wheel hubs and braked trailer and caravan brake drums and wheel hubs. Individual parts can be used in other applications but the combination of contents in the Service Kits dictate that they are specific to caravan and trailer and are not used elsewhere. Each Service Kit model is specifically designed for a particular caravan or trailer. The Trailer and caravan wheel hubs and brake drums are fitted to the spindle at the end of the vehicle axle as a means of attaching the road wheels. The hubs and brake drums rotate around the spindle allowing the wheels to turn. This rotation is facilitated by bearings and grease within the hub or brake drum. Sealed bearings are used in brake drums, retained by means of a steel circlip to the rear. The brake drum is then secured to the axle spindle by means of a self-locking single-use steel nut at the front. Taper roller bearings are used in wheel hubs or brake drums, secured to the axle by a combination of nuts and washers. Castellated nuts with cotter pins or single-use steel nuts are commonly used for this purpose. Lubricating grease is then retained in the hub by means of an oil seal and/or grease cap. The Service Kits are packaged in a plain white or colour retail carton
