Description: A set of hand-held instruments designed to behave in the same way as radiation detectors and emitters but do not actually produce or detect radiation. The set consists of emitting devices that generate a radio frequency designed to mimic a radiation source and the detector units that receive the radio signals and processes the information. On the front of each receiver is a control panel and LCD which shows details of the simulation providing information such as readouts in units of Micro-Severts, so as to simulate the detection of radiation. These devices are intended for use in an educational environment such as a classroom or on a training exercise. They cannot be modified or adapted in any way to work as real radiation detectors or emitters. 2 of each device is supplied, the detectors are powered by 2 AA batteries and the emitters by 3 AAA batteries, all are packaged in a purpose-built case with hollowed out padding into which the devices are placed for storage

Description: A condenser designed to condense hexane vapours generated from various locations in the vegetable oil solvent extraction plant. It is a shell and tube heat exchanger which comprises of a vessel with a cylindrical shell enclosing a series of tubes which are held in place at both ends of the cylinder with a tube sheet. The sheet is welded to the shell, between the tube sheets are a series of baffles welded in place. The condenser is vertically mounted on 2 support feet with a cap end bolted to each end of the tube sheet. For this application the vessel is a replacement for a corroded vessel and the original cap ends will be re-used. The condenser is manufactured from a combination of carbon steel and stainless steel. The tubes are stainless steel grade 316, the shell and baffles are stainless steel grade 304, the tube sheets and support feet are carbon steel (Grade S275JR). The Gaskets for the cap end to tube sheet seal are synthetic fibre based. On the shell side there is an opening for the vapours to enter the vessel and 2 outlets, one for drainage of the condensed hexane which is recycled back into the process and a second outlet for the non-condensable vapour which flow to further upstream equipment before being discharged to atmosphere. Each of the existing cap ends has a connection, water passes through the upper cap end connection down the tubes to the lower cap end and out. The water is the cooling medium used to condense the hexane vapour. The condenser diameter is approximately 510 mm and the length is approximately 7.1 m with an empty weight is about 2.3 tonne. The tube surface area is approximately 130 m2.

The evaporator condenser is a shell and tube heat exchanger which comprises of a vessel with a cylindrical shell enclosing a series of tubes which are held in place at both ends of the cylinder with a tube sheet. The tube sheet is welded to the shell, between the tube sheets are a series of baffles welded in place . The condenser is horizontally mounted on 2 support legs with a cap end bolted to each end of the tube sheet. For this application the vessel is a replacement for a corroded vessel and the original cap ends will be re-used. The condenser is manufactured from a combination of carbon steel and stainless steel. The tubes are stainless steel grade 316 The baffles are stainless steel grade 304 The shell, tube sheets and support feet are carbon steel (Grade S275JR). Gaskets for cap end to tube sheet seal are nitrile rubber (Grade Duro 60) On the shell side of the vessel there is a large opening for hexane vapours to enter the vessel and 5 outlets connections, three connections act as drains for the condensed hexane which is recycled back into the process. The other two connections are vapour outlets for the non-condensable vapour which flow to further upstream equipment before being discharged to atmosphere. One of the existing cap ends has an inlet and outlet connection, water passes through the inlet connection along the tubes to the far side existing cap end and then back to the outlet connection of the first cap end. The water is the cooling medium used to condense the hexane vapour. The condenser diameter is approximately 1.4 m and the length is approximately 7.3 m with an empty weight is about 16 tonne. The tube surface area is approximately 1100 m2. The vessel is shipped in a container suitably secured for the journey but without additional packing.

Description: Simulated devices used to safely teach and train users in the properties and characteristics of ionising radiation contamination. The device is used by training establishments, universities, research and industry to train staff in a completely safe environment how to monitor and measure for "radioactive" contamination on surfaces and the physical properties of Alpha and Beta radiation. The simulators take the form of hand held instruments mimicking real contamination meters but operate using a fake radioactive contamination source and a gas detector built into the meter. The "source" is a safe, harmless liquid chemical which is applied to a surface and slowly evaporates - this produces a small gas cloud just above the surface which can then be detected by the simulated meter via a probe housing a gas detector. The reading from the gas detector is converted in a Counts per second reading as would be found on a real instrument of this type. The meters are made from plastic or metal casings with a lcd screen, pcb and keypad, and a metal or plastic bodied probe in a number of different forms which houses the gas detector. The simulators CANNOT be used to measure real radiation and could not be modified to do so. The simulators are usually packaged in a carry case containing the instruments, manuals, batteries/charger etc.
