Description: A Pendant lamp made by the artist and architect Carlo Scarpa and produced by Venini & C., Murano circa 1936. The lamp is in the shape of an upside-down truncated-cone body and diffuser screen. The diffuser is designed with large pieces of glass made into rounds and petal shapes and formed into a Tesserae (mosaic) pattern. The glass is made from Chiaro Pagliesco a straw-coloured translucent glass, which gives the light a warm yellow/amber hue. The lower globe is in Murrine glass (a complex technique where master classmakers create intricate patterns) and nail covers with 'strawberries' in pagliesco glass. The lamp is constructed from a gilded metal skeleton and the glass and other elements are applied onto the skeleton. Carlo Scarpa was designer and architect and in 2013, the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibited Venetian Glass by Carlo Scarpa (Venini Company, 1932–1947), featuring the designs and techniques he created for the Venini factory. Displays were put on at important international showcases such as the Milan Triennale and Venice Biennale during the 1930s and 1940s.
